six peaks challenge 2025

When you use TiDB, you also have access to the TiDB Toolkit that include several tools that help you with TiDB deployment, data import/export, data migration, backup/restore, etc. These tools will get your TiDB up and running quickly and also streamline many of the operational tasks that you will be performing.

We wanted to create a fun way for our users to get introduced to key TiDB tools and also to recognize people who complete their journeys across these tools. So, we’re excited to launch the Six Peaks Challenge, to help you get familiar with six TiDB tools: TiUP, Dumpling, TiDB Lightning, TiDB Data Migration (DM), TiCDC, and Backup & Restore (BR).

Starting in March 2025, we’ll be releasing a short (~ 10 minutes) training video each month for one of the tools and then you will be presented with a challenge to complete. These challenges could range from submitting a screenshot of your using the tool, providing a short write-up, answering a few questions, social media posts, etc.

Since it’s a foundational tool, we’ll be starting with TiUP in March and then you’ll see an announcement on social media and our community platforms as each new video (and challenge) is released. Once you’re done with TiUP (i.e., the base camp), you can complete other challenges in any order you’d like and you will have until December 7, 2025 to make your submissions.

How to Participate

No registration is necessary to participate in the Six Peaks Challenge. For each tool (and accompanying challenge), we will have a Google Form for you to send in your submissions.

Timeline

The Six Peaks Challenge will run from March 19 to December 7, 2025

Each month, we will release a new tool video and you can work on the tools challenges in any order you’d like (we strongly recommend starting with TiUP as the first tool). You can refer to the “Challenges” section for videos and challenges.

Prizes

To recognize your contributions, we want to provide people with opportunities to win some fun swag and we will have the following levels of accomplishments. The more challenges you complete, the better swag you will get.  [NOTE: We will update this page when we finalize the swag items]

  • Summit: For anyone who completes all six challenges.
  • High Camp: For anyone who completes five challenges.
  • Intermediate Camp: For anyone who completes four challenges.

We referred to TiUP as the base camp above, and it’s a tool that everyone needs to complete for all levels above. In addition, we may add special awards for people with creative use cases, make contributions to improve our tools, etc.
