Pinterest is one of the largest HBase users with over 50 production clusters and 9,000 virtual machines. However, they wanted a new solution as scalable as NoSQL, but with the ability to handle transactions for online services and provide analytics into business metrics.

In this short video, Pinterest Senior Engineering Manager Lianghong Xu explains why the company chose TiDB database, an advanced open-source, distributed SQL database to handle its growing HBase workloads.
